Edith Josephine Davis passed away on Sunday, September 22, 2024 at the age of 93. Edith was born in Grandview, Tennessee on June 6, 1931 to Frank Lester Spain and Dovie Idella Phillips Spain. She grew up in Tennessee and married Leonard Lloyd Davis April 28, 1950 in Rossville, Georgia. He preceded her in death. Besides residing in Georgia, they also lived in Virginia and Kansas. Edith and Leonard were blessed with three children, Patricia Ann Larremore of Lubbock, Texas, Carolyn Sue Davis of Kansas City, Kansas and Walter Dean Davis, now deceased. She had three grandchildren, Shanna Cloyd of Midland, Texas, Cassandra McDaris of Kansas City, Kansas and Joseph Davis of Kansas City, Missouri. She is also survived by five great grandchildren and one sister, Esta Lake of Cumming, Georgia. While her children were young, she received her cosmetology license and worked part-time while caring for her children. She retired at the age of 80. She liked to keep busy and enjoyed working in her iris gardens. She owned many “fur” babies during her lifetime and they provided her with unconditional love. Stray dogs could always count on a meal or two. She was fond of cats and became known to her family, friends and neighbors as the “Cat Whisperer”. Edith was a devout life-long Jehovah’s Witness and was a member of the Brenner Creek Congregation in Kansas City, Kansas. The family would like to give special recognition to her caregivers with Prairie Wind Hospice and to the staff at Shawnee Gardens Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center for their outstanding care and compassion. We also want to give special thanks to Gloria Stephens for her dedication in visiting and keeping our mom connected to the Brenner Creek congregation after she became housebound. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to a lifesaving charity of your choice. No memorial service will be held. Interment will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Kansas City, Kansas.
