

Eugene Montgomery “Gene” Moore, 93, of Tonganoxie, KS, died Saturday, November 15, 2014 at Tonganoxie Nursing Center. He was born February 10, 1921 in Richmond, Missouri to Mina and William Moore. Gene was a maintenance man for Marsh Steel, later Ryerson Steel, in North Kansas City, Missouri for 39 years, retiring in 1986. He was a shop steward and local steel workers union vice president and committeeman for many years. Previously, Gene had joined the Civilian Conservation Corps from 1936-38, where he installed hydraulics on B-25 bombers built at the North American bomber plan in Fairfax, Kansas. He then served as an aircraft crew chief mechanic in the Army Air Corps in World War II from 1943-46.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Julia Marie, nee McPhail, whom he married April 26, 1942 in Kansas City, Kansas, and who died August 31, 1993. They were married for 51 years and she was the love of his life. Also preceding him in death were his parents, William and Mina, nee Hail, Moore; infant brother, Charles; and sister, Clara Marie Gray.
Left to mourn his passing are his two sons, David Moore and wife, Patsy, of Kansas City, Kansas, and Dwight Moore and wife, Nona, of Mascoutah, Illinois; five grandchildren, Christopher Moore and wife Alice, Carol Gersema and husband Duane, Clinton Moore and wife Christina, Jeffrey Moore and wife Jennifer, and Janelle Robertson and husband Jeffrey; eleven great-grandchildren, Jacob Moore, Jesse Moore, Jennifer Moore, Clinton Gersema, Brent Gersema, Trucker Moore, Georgia Moore, Lily Moore, Luke Moore, Evangeline Robertson and Isaac Robertson; four great-great grandchildren, Bruce Moore, Beau Moore, Grayson Moore, and Wren Gersema; and other relatives and friends.
Friends may call from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at Chapel Hill – Butler Funeral Home, 701 North 94th Street, Kansas City, Kansas. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, November 20, 2014 at the funeral home. Interment with Honors will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, 1331 North 75th Place, Kansas City, Kansas 66112.
