

Harriet accepted Christ at an early age and joined First African Methodist Episcopal Church in 1944 under the leadership of Rev. S. H. Lewis shortly after moving to Kansas City.
She was an active member at First A.M.E. and was involved in many organizations including Senior Choir, Church Beautiful, Sons and Daughters of Allen, the Calendar Club and Mary F. Handy Women’s Missionary Society. She was appointed the 5th District Chairperson of Vernon Center, Chairman of the Prayer Band, Steward on the Stewardess Board and she was also a Class Leader. Harriet loved her church home and remained an active participant.
She was united in Holy Matrimony to Nathan Sanders, her childhood sweetheart, and they shared a wonderful life in California. Harriet was preceded in death by her beloved husband, her step-daughter, Caroline Marshall, and son-in-law, Benjamin Watson.
The Lord welcomed Harriet into her new home on Sunday, April 26, 2015.
She leaves to mourn her beloved and devoted daughter, Johnnie Mae Watson of Kansas City, Kansas, her loving and compassionate God-daughter, Bernice Thomas of Kansas City, Kansas, her step-daughters, Beatrice Henderson of Fairfield, California, and Angela Mather of Haywood, California, and step-grandson, Antoine Mather of Oakland, California, and a host of friends, relatives and Church family.
A Celebration of Harriet’s Life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 2nd at the First African Methodist Episcopal Church, 1111 North 8th Street, Kansas City, Kansas 66101. Friends may call from 9:00-11:00 a.m., Saturday morning at the church. Interment will follow the services in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
