

Hilda May Bakeman, 72, of Lansing, passed away November 21, 2015. Visitation will be from 2:00-4:00 pm, Sunday, November 29th at Chapel Hill – Butler Funeral Home, 701 North 94th Street, Kansas City, Kansas 66112. Funeral services will be 10:30 am, Monday, November 30th at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Leavenworth National Cemetery. Hilda was born May 14, 1943 in Abington, Cambridgeshire, England to Alfred and Ruth Leader. She grew up in England and met Larry Bakeman while he was stationed there for the Air Force. They married in 1973 and started their family. While in England, Hilda worked for the Cathadon Crystals factory. They moved to the US in 1976. After Larry’s retirement from the Air Force in 1981, he moved the family to Leavenworth, Kansas. Hilda was a stay at home mother until her husband passed away in 1984. She worked various clerical/secretary jobs before working as a housekeeper for Cushing Memorial Hospital from the late 1980’s to 1994. They moved to Texas for a time and she worked for J.C. Penney. After returning to Kansas, Hilda worked for CMOP pharmaceuticals. She attended Farley Christian Church and volunteered for Operation Wildlife in Linwood. Hilda was also a member of the Leavenworth Animal Welfare Society and an avid gardener.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Ruth Leader; her husband, Larry Bakeman; and her brother, Vic Leader.
Hilda is survived by her children, Jan Bakeman, and James Bakeman; her siblings, Kathleen, Ted, George, and Winnie; and her four cats, Simon, Richard, Biscuit, and Domino.
