
James "Jim" M. Conklin, 71, of Shawnee, Kansas, passed away on Monday, February 10, 2014, in his home. A life-time Kansas City resident, Jim was born in Kansas City, Kansas, on November 30, 1942. He graduated from Washington High School and later attended Emporia State where he earned his Bachelor's degree. Although he briefly taught history in high school, Jim spent most of his career as an Insurance consultant until he retired from the industry to pursue his successful entrepreneurial dreams. An avid Mensa member, dedicated Royals fan, Camaro enthusiast, 3rd degree Mason and devoted family patriarch, Jim led by example of honor, truth, respect and accountability.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Carolyn, son, Neil Conklin, his daughter, Angel Stahl, stepson, Wayne Dubin, and his grandchildren, Samantha, 24, Morgan, 17, Mason, 16, Aidan, 12 and Ava, 9. Jim is preceded in death by his parents, L.Y. Conklin and Thelma Young. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, February 13, at the Amos Family Funeral Home in Shawnee. A visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, February 12. Inurnment will follow the memorial service Thursday, at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Kansas City, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, Jim's family suggests contributions be made to a charity of your choice.
