

A visitation for Jim will be held Thursday, June 8, 2023, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Chapel Hill - Butler Funeral Home, 701 North 94th Street, Kansas City, KS 66112. A rosary will occur Thursday, June 8, 2023, at 7:40 PM, 701 North 94th Street, Kansas City, KS 66112. A mass of Christian burial will occur Friday, June 9, 2023, at 2:00 PM at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 1066 North 94th Street, Kansas City, KS 66112.
Jim will be laid to rest in Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, Parallel Pkwy & N 126th Street, Kansas City, Kansas 66109.
Jim was born on July 24th,1940, in Kansas City, Kansas, to Thomas and Ceslaus (Tessie) Garvey. He graduated from Bishop Ward High School where he was a member of 1958 state baseball championship team. Jim married Donna Saragusa, the love of his life, on December 28th, 1963. He proudly served his country for 2 years in the Korean War. Jim was a member of the Regal Plastic Team where he led fellow employees as a Plant Supervisor for over 30 years. Jim was a practicing Catholic and parishioner of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Jim loved to play baseball for his entire life. He was a dedicated Royals fan and won the "Hustler Award" in the Ban Johnson League in 1958.
Jim enjoyed Polka dancing with Donna, chasing pheasants with his son and their bird dogs, going to Kansas Speedway, and watching his grandchildren play athletics.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife Donna, his parents, and brother J.T. He is survived by his children, Nici (Shawn Updike), James (Leann) Garvey and his grandchildren, Emily Genova, Colton and Addelyn Hinkle, Olivia Garvey and 2 great grandchildren, his sisters Rosetta and Chesa, and brother Eddie Joe.
