John Clelland Wilson, Jr., 83, a resident of the Golden Age Nursing Home of Braymer, Missouri, was called to his Heavenly home on October 2, 2010. He was born in St. Joseph, Missouri on July 21, 1927 to John C. Wilson, Sr. and Enona (Nash) Wilson Ducret. He gave his life to his Lord and Savior in January of 2010, being baptized into the Christian faith. John leaves his family and friends with the legacy of a life devotion to others. He was a dedicated son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather who tirelessly dedicated himself to family and friends. He loved being involved in the activities of his children and grandchildren and always gave up his time to support them, as a softball coach for his young daughters or a tireless fan of the Braymer Bobcats and Turner Bears as his grandchildren played sports and participated in other activities. John never missed an opportunity to be involved for his family.
John attended and graduated from Washington High School in Kansas City, KS in 1945. Following his graduation he was called to serve his country in the U.S. Navy, where he served in the Bikini Islands in the Pacific at the end of World War II. John married Dorothy Ayers on June 1, 1947 at Central Christian Church in Kansas City, Ks. He then attended college for some time at Park College in Parkville, Missouri. John and Dorothy had three children, John C. “Johnny” Wilson III, Tanya Sue (Wilson) Mallory, and Melinda Kay (Wilson) Losier. Johnny preceded his father in death in 1954.
John worked as a supervisor for the Phillips Petroleum Company in Kansas City, Missouri. His 34 year career from 1951-1985 included 31 years in Kansas City, and 3 years preceding his retirement in Fairview, Oklahoma. The Wilsons made many dear friends over the years in Kansas City, Oklahoma, and finally Braymer, Missouri where he and his wife lived together at the Golden Age Nursing Home for the last few years of his life. John and Dorothy could be found sitting side by side watching their beloved Kansas Jayhawks basketball team or the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals on television as they had for many, many years. Their love for each other and for their children and grandchildren was the foundation for the family they built together.
John was also preceded in death by his father, John C. Wilson, Sr.; his mother Enona Ducret; step-father Paul Ducret; a sister, Susie Smith; a brother, George “Tiny” Wilson; and two great-grandchildren, Hannah Faith Prewitt and Blake Matthew Prewitt.
John is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dorothy, of Braymer, Missouri; his two daughters Tanya Mallory of Braymer, Missouri and Melinda Losier and her husband, Dennis of Shawnee, Kansas; grandchildren Joe Mallory and his wife Jenni, of Braymer; Angie Prewitt and husband Matt of Columbia, Missouri; Lyndsey Hall and husband Bob of Stet, Missouri; Amy Knight and husband Matt of Kansas City, Kansas; and John Losier and his wife Stephanie of Kansas City, Kansas. John was also blessed with 12 great-grandchildren.
Services for John will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home with Visitation from 11:00 a.m. until service time. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Kansas City, KS. The family request any contributions be made to the Braymer Athletic Department, Braymer, MO.
