

Joseph F. Verbenec, Jr., 68, of Kansas City, Kansas, passed away April 13, 2015. Visitation will be from 10:00-noon, Friday, April 17th at Cornerstone Community Church, 2400 North 81st Street, Kansas City, Kansas 66109. Funeral services will follow at noon at the church. Interment will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675 or the National MS Society, 7611 State Line Rd # 100, Kansas City, Missouri 64114.
Joe was born October 7, 1946 in Kansas City, Kansas to Joseph and Elizabeth Verbenec. He graduated from Bishop Ward High School and worked for the Board of Public Utilities for 29 years, retiring in 2002. Joe married Joyce McConnell on April 15, 1988. He was a member of the IBEW Local 53, and enjoyed fishing, gardening, working on hot rods and traveling, especially to Colorado. Joe will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Elizabeth Verbenec, and his granddaughter, Kaylin Cone.
Joe is survived by his wife of 27 years, Joyce Verbenec; his children, Scott Verbenec (Cristy), Shannon Cone (Shawn), and Jason Verbenec; his step-daughter, Jennette Ridder (Anthony); his grandchildren, Jacob and Noah Cone; his step-grandchildren, Devin, Danielle & Desiree Ridder, and Caitlyn, Kyle & Cole Alterman; his great-grandchild, Skylar Valentine; his sister, Pam Alcanter (Mike); his brothers, Gary Verbenec (Victoria), and Mark Verbenec (Marilyn), as well as many other family members and friends.
