Kathleen Marie Ahland Thomas, 66, passed away peacefully on Dec.18, 2023 at Providence Medical in Kansas City, KS. after a lengthy illness. Kathy was born on Jan. 29, 1957, in Chicago. Ill to Jeremiah and Mary (Ellard) Ashland, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by daughter Cynthia Jones and infant great granddaughter Kolbie Heins.
She is survived by husband of 31 years, Charles (Charlie) R. Thomas, children Patti Spaeth, Kimberly Stegeman, John Oullette, and their adoptive mother Sheryl Oullette, grandchildren Corey, Cutter, Ashley, Jessica, Steven, Chrissy and Elizabeth. 10 great grandchildren, sisters Cheryl Conrad, Pamela Baker, Barbara Weaver and 5 nephews.
Kathy’s first job was as a bartender at DJ’s Club, where she met the love of her life Charlie, and has remained immortalized in a mural on the wall there for 35 years. A people person, she always worked in jobs thereafter to do just that. She took great pride when it came to handling money. Kathy worked in convenience stores, at Square Shooter Candy for 7 years, as a casino slot attendant for 7 years, and several grocery stores. Her last and favorite job was at Walmart, where for 14 years people would wait in line for their favorite cashier. She would tell the best jokes, and her humor and kindness are one to remember. She made many friends there.
Kathy loved Christmas. She gave children bags of reindeer food, told her special poem, and passed out naughty and nice lists. She was caring and cried when her feelings were hurt, yet also stubborn at times. She had much more love in her spunky self than she was able to put into words. She had attitude, swagger, and sometimes a foul mouth.
She wanted the best for her children and for them to succeed in life. She loved her husband, Charlie deeply, dearly, loyally and fiercely for 36 years as he loved her.
God made and called back a truly good, original lady.
A visitation for Kathleen will be held Saturday, December 30, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Chapel Hill - Butler Funeral Home, 701 North 94th Street, Kansas City, Kansas 66112, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 PM.
