Michael “Mike” James Millhouse, a lifelong resident of Kansas City, KS, died on Sunday, January 26, 2025 at the age of 73 in his home after living with cancer and subsequent illnesses for almost 8 years.
Mike was born on February 23, 1951 to James and Betty Millhouse. He graduated from Turner High School and attended Pittsburg State University. He was a longtime member of IBEW Local 124 and retired in 2013 after working as a Stockman/Driver and doing tool repair in the trade.
Mike is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Linda Millhouse (née Uniak); his daughter Megan Harder (James); his son, Sean Millhouse; his grandsons, Kael and Ezra; his devoted cat, Benny; his mother, Betty Millhouse and his sister, Nancy Shirley (Kevin), many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of long-time friends. He was preceded in death by his father James Millhouse.
Mike was passionately devoted to the things he loved most dearly: his favorite hobbies which included playing military strategic war games and one sixth scale figure modeling, his thirst for excellent books, films, and television shows; delicious and exotic food; in-depth conversations over matters both silly and serious; staunch loyalty to his friends; and his profound affection and care for animals, with whom he always had a magical and uncanny ability to attract and befriend wherever he went.
Mike will be greatly missed and remembered for his one of a kind sense of humor, his willingness to go above and beyond for family, neighbors, friends and strangers alike, his pride as Poppy to his human and furry grand babies, and his desire to see justice and compassion in the world.
Heartfelt thanks and sincere gratitude to the medical caregivers at KU Cancer Center, KU Medical Center, Aquinas Home Health and Appl Orchard Hospice.
Celebration of Life will be held at the Rickhouse Event Space 7042 W 76th St Overland Park, Ks from 5-9pm. The family suggests memorials in Mike’s name to the Humane Society of Greater Kansas City, 5445 Parallel Pkwy, Kansas City KS 66104-3047.
