Michael Wheeler Jr.

Michael was a devoted man of service, both to his country and his community. He proudly served in the United States Navy for 25 years. Following his military retirement, he continued his commitment to public service as a government employee for more than 20 years.

Beyond his professional life, Michael had a deep passion for mentoring youth. For over two decades, he served as a dedicated youth football coach, pouring wisdom, discipline, and encouragement into the lives of countless young people. In 2009, he founded a nonprofit organization, furthering his mission to uplift and guide others. He remained committed to coaching and mentoring until the time of his passing.

Michael was a proud graduate of the University of St. Mary’s, earning his Bachelor’s degree in May 2004 and his Master’s degree in May 2006.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Jueline Wheeler; his grandparents, John and Rose Douglas; and his beloved grandchildren, Isaac and Samuel.

He leaves to cherish his memory his father, Michael Wheeler Sr. (Sandra); his loving wife, Wanda Wheeler; his children, Michael III (Lynette, Adalynn, Autumn, Lamiyah, Michael IV), Carl (Alaya, Carlana, Caleigha) NeKisha Holloway (DaMont Sr., Keshae, DaMont Jr. Devin, Leighton, Kalaela, Nevaeh), and Marquise (Delyana and Breelyn)

He is also survived by his siblings, Andrea Wheeler, Marc (Chadsity) Wheeler, and Rachael Wheeler, along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Michael’s legacy of strength, service, and compassion will live on in all who knew and loved him.

Visitation will be held at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 701 North 94th Street, Kansas City, KS 66112 on March 25, 2026, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by the Funeral at the same location from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.

Military Honors will take place at Leavenworth National Cemetery, 150 Muncie Road, Leavenworth, KS 66048 on March 25, 2026, from 1:30 pm to 2:00 pm.
