Richard Pierce, 88, of Kansas City, Kansas, passed away at his home on Friday, September 14, 2018. Services are being held at Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home, 701 North 94th Street in Kansas City, Kansas, with a Visitation on Tuesday, September 18 from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm, and the Funeral Service following on Tuesday at 2:00 pm. Interment with military honors will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. The family requests that any contributions be made to Mooseheart, 155 S International Drive Mooseheart, IL 60539.
Richard was born on March 2, 1930 in Kansas City, Missouri to Sam and Violet Pierce, and he was a lifelong area resident. He was an Air Force Veteran, serving in Occupied Germany during the Korean War. He was A Maintenance Engineer for the Kansas City, Kansas Housing Authority for 25 years before retiring in 1995, when he began working for U-Haul as a Transfer driver, which he did for 8 years. Richard was an avid racing fan and enjoyed spending time watching NASCAR Races as well as the races at Lakeside Speedway. He also loved spending time at the Lake of the Ozarks, and he was a member of The Loyal Order of the Moose, Lodge #1999.
He was preceeded in death by his wife Dorothy Pierce when she died in 2005; 1 son, Richard Lee Pierce; 1 granddaughter, Rhonda Scott; his parents, as well as 8 of his siblings.
Richard is survived by 5 children, Mary Tucker, and her husband James Tucker III, Ron Pierce, Debora Barber, Phillip Rodgers, and Darrell Rodgers; 1 brother, Donald Rowland; 1 sister Martha King; 3 grandchildren, James Tucker IV, Casey Hicks, and Andrew Hicks; and 7 great grandchildren, Kayleigh Hicks, James Tucker V, Sydney Tucker, Ryan Tucker, Richard Hernandez, Lauren Hernandez, and Tyler Hernandez. His Memory will forever be cherished.
