

Robert grew up in Kansas City, KS, where he attended Coronado Middle School and graduated in 1971 from Washington High School. He joined the United States Air Force on May 28, 1973, and, at the end of his service as an Airman, was Honorably Discharged on November 19, 1975.
On August 4, 1986, Robert married the love of his life, Jessie, his soulmate. Robert and Jessie did everything together. Work was the only thing that kept them apart. Their union was blessed with two beautiful daughters, Adrianna Nicole and Areon Nasha. Later, Robert and Jessie were blessed with five wonderful grandchildren. Throughout his life, Robert was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
For many years, Robert worked for Tyson Construction Company where he gained exemplary experience in construction work. In 1990, he branched out on his own, became self-employed and established his own business, RECO Construction, Inc. Robert willingly shared his expertise in construction and helped many churches, family members, and friends with their projects. In addition, while self-employed, Robert worked part-time for eight years at FedEx where he met and made several life-long friends. Robert continued working until his health failed.Robert was strong in his Christian faith and committed to his daily walk and relationship with the Lord. At an early age, he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized at Rising Star Baptist Church in Kansas City, KS. Later, he joined Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Kansas City, KS under Pastor O.L. Cobbins, Sr. At Macedonia MBC, Robert served as a Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, Choir Member, and Men’s Chorus Member. After Pastor O. L. Cobbins, Sr. passed, Robert joined Bread of Life – East Church under Bishop Otis L. Cobbins, Jr. At Bread of Life– East Church, Robert served as Chairman of the Deacon Board and as a Pastoral Committee member. Robert not only enjoyed serving the Lord, but he also enjoyed singing for the Lord as well. He was a gifted singer who often blessed his church family with his inspirational singing voice.
Spending time with his five grandchildren affectionately known as “Pa Pa’s babies” was Robert’s greatest joy. He celebrated their accomplishments and regularly attended their birthday parties and school events. Working in his yard also brought joy to Robert. Family members and friends will fondly remember him for his immaculate lawn. Also, they will remember him for his distinctive laugh!
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, John Wesley Cobbins, Sr. and Rosie Cobbins; brother, John Wesley Cobbins, Jr.; and sister, Marie Thompson.
Robert leaves to honor and cherish his memories his loving wife of 36 years, Jessie; two daughters, Adrianna Cobbins and Areon Wilson (Devin); one granddaughter, Addison Conley; four grandsons, Jeremi Conley, Quincy Wilson, Titan Wilson, and Kyree Wilson; one sister, Mabeline Gordon (Elbert) of Kansas City, KS; two brothers, Ralph Cobbins of Vacaville, CA and Anthony Cobbins of Kansas City, KS; three aunts, Rosezenia “Ella Jean” Lee of Kansas City, KS, Minnie Cobbins of Raytown, MO and Arlee Cobbins of Chicago, IL; two uncles, David Cobbins, Sr. (Chiquita) of Kansas City, MO and Clarence Cobbins (Gwen) of Lee’s Summit, MO; Best Friend, Louis White of Kansas City, KS; a “son”, DeAndre Barnett (Marissa) of Gardner, KS; a ”daughter”, Diane Wright of Memphis, TN;13 Godchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A funeral services for Robert will be held Saturday, June 3, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Bread of Life East Church, 7223 East Bannister Road, Kansas City, MO 64134. A visitation will occur Saturday, June 3, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, 7223 East Bannister Road, Kansas City, MO 64134. A graveside will occur Monday, June 5, 2023 at 1:30 PM at Leavenworth National Cemetery, 150 Muncie Road, Leavenworth, KS 66048.
