I went 2 jr. High 6th\9th grd.. With his sister.. 👍 
 Being such the good brother  russ was driving parents auto.  He drove to his sister's scchool drive give a ride home.. 👍 didn't see Her get on the bus or wat ever. Russ drove few blks found his sister bought 2 lite up a Marlboro cig.. (1985)...russ b4 she inly in her liter out 2 smoke cig. 
  Russ turned corner spoted her n said. Put it out get away from ur so called cool fruends n get n the truck very calmly but sternly... 👍

I was so sad to hear about Russell. He was such a good friend when we were growing up.. we spent many many hours on the phone. He lived by my grandparents. we always loved going for walks so we could see the cute guy behind grandpa's house! Marjie and Gerry, we were your neighbors on Yecker, two doors up the hill in the early seventies. Our two sons, Mike and Matt played with Russell and we remember him as a bright, happy youngster.  We are so saddened to learn of your loss and we send our condolences.  We moved to California in 1977 and Ken checks the KC Star on line often for news. Mike and Matt are 41 and 39 years old.  Mike married at age 37 and his first child, a boy was born when Mike was 40.  Matt is divorced and has two girls, age 12 and 10.  We are retired. I met Russell many many years ago thru visiting my grandparents every week.  My cousins and I were taking a walk and he hollered out at us thru his window and that became a friendship that we had over the years growing up. I am so sad to hear the news I only found out today. My thoughts and prayers go out to his wife, baby, Diane and entire family.  He was a great friend to have and he will be missed by all that knew him.

Russell, you're a guy that could always be counted on. You'd get that twinkle in your eye & there'd be an adventure.

Sometimes in life we meet people that are like beacons of light that guide us through the rocks, and also bring hope, during difficult times. Russ will always be that lighthouse for many of us. His distant gaze and shining attitude were a good sign that he would find his home in the clouds. Russ was a Man that even I couldn't argue with, and that is something. He would shrug off matters of little importance as fast as that sly smile would come to his face. He will not be forgotten by this old soldier and he will always stand out as the "lets do it" person in my memory. May your light keep shining for us and may the Father grant you peace.

I met Russell when he was 18 months old when he started coming to my day care home.  We have a lot of fond memories of the days he spent with us.  My daughter was 5 months older than Russell and  he was like a brother to her.  They shared a lot of good times over the years.  I remember cooking hard boiled eggs.  He liked eating the white part and she liked the yolk. I will never forget the time they wanted to make Easter baskets.  I did not have any fake grass so they went outside and brought in a lot of real grass.  It seemed like it took me forever to get all that grass cleaned up!   In 30 years of having a day care home, I have seen many kids come and go.  There are a few that we will never forget and Russell is at the top of the  list!  He was a very special boy and grew to be a very special man.  Jerry and Margie thank you for allowing me to have a part in his life during his formative years. We thank God for you and your family.  We are grieving with you and our thoughts and prayers are with you and Ginger during this most difficult time.

Russell was the guy who always brought life into a room......he always lived on the edge and made each day more exciting than the previous. There was no one tougher yet full of love for his friends, he will be missed by all who had the pleasure of calling him a friend.

Russell was more than my cousin. He was like an older brother, one of my closest friends, and sometimes my guardian angel-always looking out for me in school. Even though we may have lost touch and didn't talk everyday like in the past, I still feel that he was a great influence on me when I needed him the most. He is loved and will be truly missed.

I am deeply saddened by this horrible news.  I was a teacher at Sumner, but I never had the pleasure of having Russell in my class.  But he still made it to my door many, many times, and I came to appreciate what an important person he was... he dignifed others, making the insecure and unhappy kids around him feel important and noticed... and teased.  What a huge personality, and what a huge hole has been left!

Gerry & Marjie & Family - - I was shocked and saddened to learn of Russell's passing.  I have many great memories of growing up on Yecker and he is a big part of so many of those good times.  I am so sorry for your loss.  You are in my thoughts and prayers.

My life was blessed for the short time that I got to know you.  You brought energy to the drop zone and were always making me laugh.  Show those angels how flying is really done!

I miss you more and more each day my brother.   I am so privileged to have spent the time together with you that we did, and will treasure all those wonderful memories.  The Drop Zone will never be the same without you, but I know you'll be with me on each jump watching over me and laughing.   Fly free, and laugh at everyone and everything.
