

Samuel P. Johnson, 89, of KCK, passed away May 24, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 28th at Chapel Hill-Butler, 701 N. 94th St., KCK. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Monday, May 27th at the funeral home. Interment with Military Honors will follow the funeral service in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to KC Hospice House.
Sam was born February 25, 1924 in Pikeville, Tennessee to Otis C. and Thelma (Holt) Johnson. He grew up on a farm and left school in the ninth grade to help his family. Sam volunteered for the Navy in WWII and traveled all over the world for his Country. After his service, he moved to the KC area and met Julia Mestagh, they married on May 31, 1950. Sam worked for US Gypsum Paper Company for over 33 years, retiring in 1981 as a general manager. His hobby was work and he was always doing something, either baling hay, going to horse sales or building something.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Thelma Johnson, his four siblings, Dion, Francis and Doyle Johnson and Devota Brumley, as well as his son, James Johnson.
Sam is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Julia Johnson of the home; daughter, Teresa Beach (Jerry) of Tonganoxie; son, George Samuel Johnson “Feller” (Della Gayle) of KCK; six grandchildren, Sam Johnson (Tracy), Jason Johnson (Melanie), Josh Johnson (Haley), Melissa Robbins (Kasey), Kelly Staples (Eric) and Russell Beach (Jessica); as well as fourteen great-grandchildren (and one on the way) and a host of nieces, nephews and other family.
