

Margaret “Sandy” Phillips, 81, of Overland Park, KS, passed away Friday, December 28th, 2012 at Delmar Gardens. Services will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 3, 2013 at Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 2nd at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the Staff Christmas Fund of Delmar Gardens of Overland Park, 12100 W 109th, Overland Park, KS, 66210.
Sandy was born October 14, 1931 in El Morrow, NM to Hammon and Grace Griffith. She was raised in Scotsdale, AZ, and moved to Wichita Falls, TX in 1953, where she met her husband, Phil, at the Officer’s Club at Sheppard Air Field where she worked as a waitress. They married December 19, 1953. After discharge from the air force in December 1955, Sandy moved to Kansas City, KS, where they owned and operated Phil’s Café until 1966, when they purchased Wyandotte Café at 78th and State Avenue. She co-owned and operated Wyandotte Café for 28 years, before retiring in 1994. Sandy loved going to the Dog Races. So much she owned some greyhound race dogs at one time. She also loved bowling and was a weekly league bowler at both Ranch and Ranch West in Kansas City, KS.
Sandy was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her Husband of 59 years, Phil Phillips of Basehor, KS; sons, James K. Phillips and wife Morna of Sacramento, CA, and Randy E. Phillips, Sr. and wife Tammy of Shawnee, KS; brother, Clifford Stoltje of Albuquerque, NM; sister, Bertie Jean Brown and husband Claude of Dewey, AZ; grandchildren, Randal E. Phillips, Jr. and significant other Jennifer of Kansas City, MO, Bradley L. Phillips and significant other Whitney of Kansas City, KS, Julia Fletcher and husband John of Olathe, KS, Trisha McCulloch and significant other Nick of Newington, CT, and Nicole McCulloch of Lenexa, KS; and great grandsons, Eathan Owens of Greenwood, MO, and Logan Elwood Phillips of Kansas City, MO.
