Shirley grew up in Arkansas and as a child, traveled with her family to California where her parents worked in the shipyards with the World War II effort. She later moved to the Kansas City area where she met her husband Stephen. They married in 1958. Together they ran Hallmark Gift shops in both Kansas City, Kansas and Shawnee, Kansas. She also owned and operated a catering business to “keep herself busy.” Even after retirement, she stayed energetic working part-time as a Bridal Consultant. She was a dedicated wife and mother of 50+ years.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Stephen and her parents. She is survived by her son: Terry Young of North Kansas City, Missouri; her daughter Kelly Scrivner of Paola, Kansas; brothers: Mike Taylor of Overland Park, Kansas and Jim Taylor of Aurora, Colorado.
Shirley will be greatly missed by those whose lives she touched—most of all by her family to whom she was always dedicated, understanding and supportive.
