Steven Kaye Thoman, age 71, of Kansas City, Kansas, passed away on June 19th 2025 at Benton House of Blue Springs surrounded by his family. He had Frontal Temporal Dementia along with a Meningioma tumor that shortened his life with us all. He will be dearly missed.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday June 24th 2025 from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Chapel Hill Butler Funeral Home on Wednesday June 25th 2025 at 10:00 a.m. Memorial contributions can be made in Steve’s honor to Wounded Warrior Project, Disabled American Veterans or Frontal Temporal Dementia Awareness.
Steve was born on June 22, 1953 in Concordia, Kansas to Wayne and Willadean Thoman. He was raised in Kansas City, KS along with his six other siblings. In 1975, his Daughter Courtney was born and a few years later in 1978 he joined the Army as a Military Policeman in El Paso TX. In 1981 he moved back to Kansas City, Kansas where he joined the KCKPD and served 28 years as a Proud Police Officer. After his retirement in 2009, he worked at a Senior Assisted living Facility as a bus driver for 5 years. His hobbies during his life included, basketball, softball/baseball, bowling league, volleyball, Poker and playing Pool. He was involved with the Fraternal Order of Police during his career. Steve also was a part of Al-Anon for 23 years where he made lasting relationships that are very important to him. Steve was proceeded in death by his father, Wayne Earl Thoman and his Mother, Willadean Mae Thoman.
He is survived by his loving Daughter, Courtney Beth Chavez (Tony Chavez son-in-law) and his three beautiful grandchildren Alayna Beth Taylor (Steven), Samuel Marc Taylor and Ava Chavez, his siblings Jack Thoman (Sharon), Butch Thoman (Jenny), Brad Thoman (Diane), Sandra Kramer (Joe), Cheyanne Reed, Scott Thoman and many amazing Nieces and Nephews he adored. We all Will Miss him dearly.
