

Thomas Myles Grote, age 55, lifetime resident of Kansas City, Kansas passed away Sunday, November 23rd, 2025. Visitation from 1-3:00pm on Friday, December 5th at the Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home, 701 N 94th St, KCKs. A reception celebrating Tom’s life will be held at the FOP Lodge #4, 7844 Leavenworth Rd, following the end of visitation.
Tom graduated from Turner High School, attended Kansas City Kansas Community College. He was accepted as a police cadet with the Kansas City Kansas Police Department on January 3rd, 1989. Started the police academy November 1st, 1990. He was assigned to Central Patrol, Shift III after graduation as a sworn officer. Served the department as a patrolman, in community policing, and as dignitary security to Mayor Alvey. Retired in December 2022 with 32 years of service. He was a recipient of several commendations during his career.
Tom is survived by wife Lori, daughter Nicki Relles and husband John, grandson Malik, son Shaun Smith, granddaughters Anni and Luci Smith. Mother, Cheryl Woolery and father Donald Woolery. Mother-in-law Carol Sharp, two sister-in-law and their spouses, nephews and nieces. Many beloved paternal and maternal aunts, uncles, and cousins. And last, but not least, his constant companion and loving dog Tucker.
Preceded in death by father Ronald Grote, paternal grandparents Joseph and Sandy Grote, maternal grandparents Bradley and Geraldine Ocamb, his aunt, Lavonne Hanline and uncle, Bradley Ocamb.
Tom loved music, playing pool, collecting firearms, football, motorcycles, and camping at Wilson Lake with Lori. He was a member in FOP Lodge #4 and the Gunslingers MC Kansas City Chapter Association. He was blessed with many friends, old and new and will be greatly missed by all.
A visitation will be held at Chapel Hill - Butler Funeral Home, located at 701 North 94th Street, Kansas City, KS, 66112. The visitation is scheduled for Friday December 5, 2025, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
