

Verlin Ray Giersch, 78, of Basehor, KS., passed away, surrounded by his loving family on December 18, 2010. Verlin was born on September 14, 1932 in Salina, KS., to Cecil and Vera (Hamm) Giersch. He married the love of his life, Dorothy Lou Black on July 4, 1951. He was proud to have worked as a Carmen for the Union Pacific Railroad for 42 years, before retiring in 1994. Verlin is preceded in death by his parents, brother Melvin Giersch and sisters Viola Bell Phillips and Vineta Ione Whitworth. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Dorothy L. Giersch, daughters, Vonda Thrasher (Dave), Vicki Eshleman (Ed) and Kim Dye (Erick). He will be sadly missed by his six grandchildren, Kimberly Neitzke (David), Kevin Eshleman (Malynda), Ryan Thrasher, Kyle Eshleman, Travis Dye (Natalie) and Tiffany Howlett (Kyle), and six great grandchildren, Ramona, Connor, Aubreigh, Colton, Camryn, and Leighton. Verlin also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, and his sister-in-law, Florence Giersch. Family and Friends may call from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at the Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home. Graveside service immediately following in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
