

Al was born on August 18, 1929 to Fred and Hazel Hancock in Tallapoosa, Missouri. He graduated from high school in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. He served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged on October 3, 1947. During his military service he served in Washington, DC. He then attended watchmaking school, as he had loved working on watches.
Al worked many jobs during his lifetime. He worked in the wheat fields in Kansas, worked for the Santa Fe Railroad, sold life insurance and other jobs along the way. His primary career was as an Ironworker and a member of Mo-Kan Iron Workers. He worked on many buildings in Kansas City, Chicago, Little Rock, and other cities.
Al had many, many interests. He loved cars, especially old cars. He owned over 50 cars in his lifetime and could remember all of them. His favorite with his 1962 Chrysler 300. Al and Nadine both owned Volvo’s, which Al kept running for many miles, the 1994 Volvo wagon for over 400,000 miles. He also had dreams of prospecting for gold.
Al and Nadine met at their church, Central Assembly of Raytown, now Crown Pointe Church. They married on June 5, 1981 in Miami, Oklahoma. They loved to travel and visited the southwest many times, they especially loved Colorado.
He was the oldest of six children and is survived by his brother, Arvill Hancock of Doniphan, MO, daughter, Linda Downing and son Larry Hancock, both of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, one grandson, and two great grandchildren. He was “Grandpa Al” to Nadine’s family, Brent & Tammy Bush, her four grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson. He loved them all.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 21 at Crown Pointe Church, 5950 NE Lakewood Way, Lee’s Summit, MO. Visitation will be from 10:00 - 11:00 AM, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM. Al will be laid to rest in Mount Washington Cemetery, 614 S. Brookside Avenue, Independence, MO.
