Tony Luna, 82, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, January 31, 2018.
Tony is survived by his wife of 60 years, Rosa Luna; his sons Tony and Eric Luna; his daughter, Linda (Luna) Taylor and her husband Charles Taylor; his grandchildren, Zachary Taylor, Angela (Taylor) Jacobs and her husband Ryan Jacobs; his many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews; and and his countless friends.
Born in Chicago, 1936, to Pasquale and Cecelia Luna. He spent the first half of his life in Chicago, when he later moved to Kansas City in 1989.
In his early life, Tony enjoyed spending time with a tight-knit family, who constantly ran around the city--often bouncing from one jazz club to another. As always, he had many friends throughout his neighborhood.
In August of 1954, Tony joined the Army where he received his Parachute Badge, as well as decorations for Submachine Gun Expertise, and M-1 Marksmanship. During his 6 year service, he spent time stationed in Munich, Germany--where he met his wife Rosa (Pichlmaier) Luna.
Upon returning with Rosa to Chicago, Tony began his work with the Santa Fe railroad. After working 30 plus years as a Car Foreman, he retired to his home in Kansas City.
Tony was a loving husband, father and grandfather. His passions included his family, music--especially jazz and the blues, fishing, and coaching baseball. His passion was only matched by his love and generosity.
A memorial service will be held at McGilley Antioch Chapel on Sunday, Febuary 4th at 2 pm. The burial will take place at Leavenworth National Cemetery on Monday, February 5th at 10 am.
