Arden was born January 27, 1939 to Arthur Henry and Mary Agnes Sickman of Kansas City, Missouri. A lifetime resident of Kansas City, Arden attended St. Francis Xavier grade school, St. Teresa’s Academy and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Avila University.
Arden met Bill Weis through The Rockhurst College Discussion Club, and they married June 30th, 1962.
After raising three boys Arden re-kindled the family tradition of retail clothing, opening a Kansas City location of Parker School Uniforms and later Dennis School Uniforms, quickly establishing herself in the Kansas City Community as the “School Uniform Lady.” Arden was a determined, independent soul. Upon completion of a difficult challenge she was known to proudly proclaim, “And I did it my way!”
Arden was very fond of her Irish heritage as evidenced by her many years of volunteering at the Annual Kansas City Irish Fest and the Kansas City Irish Center gift shop. A fine arts lover, Arden frequented art galleries, live theatre performances, movies, and the Lyric Opera with her sister Sallye. She was a frequent international traveler, exploring Europe with her friend Rich.
Arden was very creative and loved decorating. She had a unique sense of humor and enjoyed a hearty laugh whenever possible, maintaining many relationships with dear friends from grade school and high school.
Arden was preceded in death by her husband William (Bill) Otto Weis, daughter Jennifer Ann Weis, son Jonathan Barter Weis and granddaughter Sarah Ann Weis.
Arden is survived by her brother R. Mark Sickman (Marilyn) of La Jolla, CA , sister Sallye Marie Sickman, sons William Jeffrey Weis (Lisa), Jason Duncan Weis (Andrea), daughter-in-Law Christina Weis and grandchildren Samuel Kiefer Weis, Spencer Thomas Weis and Jonathan Christopher Weis
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to St. Teresa’s Academy, the Kansas City Irish Center or the Girl Scouts of America.
Arden passed peacefully and gracefully on March 16, 2021 surrounded by family. She will be greatly missed. The family will be scheduling private services at a later date.
Traditional Gaelic Blessing
May the road
rise up to meet you.
May the wind be
always at your back.
May the sun shine
warm upon your face;
May the rains fall soft
upon your fields and until
we meet again,
may God hold you
in the palm of His hand.
