

August John Broockerd, 96, of Martin City, MO, passed away peacefully on October 27, 2023, at The Missouri Veteran’s Home in Cameron. Services will be held on Friday, November 3, 2023, at McGilley State Line Chapel, 12301 State Line Road, KCMO. Visitation will be from 9:30-11:00 a.m. with the service starting at 11:00 a.m. Burial follows at Mt. Moriah Cemetery, 10507 Holmes Road, KCMO.
Aug was born in Mission, KS on April 28, 1927, to Gustaaf and Mary (Soetaert) Broockerd. He was a wonderful husband, dad, brother, son, grandpa, and friend.
Aug was a World War II veteran. In May of 1945, at age 18, he joined the Navy. He served as a Navy Seabee in Nagasaki and Sasebo, Japan. There, he operated excavating equipment. He was honorably discharged in May of 1946. In 1948, he married Twila Tracy and they moved to Martin City where they resided and raised their family.
During his construction career, Aug worked for Badger Lumber, Ralph Hopkins Trucking, Overland Excavating and retired from Dusselier Brothers Concrete in 1989 after 29 years. He was a member of Operating Engineers Local 101. He was a member of St. Thomas More Church. Aug and Twila were very active in the VFW 7900 and Aug was Commander from 1975-1976. He was also a member of The American Legion.
Aug was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Twila (Tracy) Broockerd, his parents, his brothers Henry and James Broockerd, grandson Aaron Hathaway, and great-grandson Liam Seymour. He is survived by his brother, Gus Broockerd, as well as his children Ron (Elaine) Broockerd, Rhonda (Curtis) Wilson, Chuck (Mary Beth) Broockerd, Elaine (Mike) Hathaway, and Julie (Scott) Chrisman. He is also survived by grandchildren Amy (Jeremy) DeGraeve, Ryan (Rachel) Wilson, Emily (Eric) Penyock, Amanda (Bob) Seymour, Brooke (Brett) Randol, Shay Estes Broockerd (Giuliano Mingucci), Tyler Wilson, Ashley (Elisha Orama) Broockerd, Ben (Stephanie) Hathaway, Ann (Tyler) Terry, Claire (Chris) Watson, and August (Kelly) Chrisman. In addition he leaves behind great grandchildren Christopher, Giuliana, Tucker, Paul, Kate, Ella, Charlie, Charlotte, Giovanna, Auggie, Broockerd, Louie, Jesse, Philip, Lennon, Landry, Evelyn, and Luka.
The pallbearers are his grandchildren. Honorary pallbearer is Robbie Stifter.
