

Barbara Benson-Montague, 77, of Overland Park, KS, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 10, 2015 in the loving care of KC Hospice House. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, August 18th at 11:00a.m, in The Wesley Chapel at The Church of the Resurrection, 13720 Roe Avenue, Leawood, KS. Donations may be made to KC Hospice House.
Barbara was born on February 5, 1938 in Winfield, KS. She attended KS State Univ where she received a bachelors and masters degree in education. She taught for 35 years in the Shawnee Mission School District at both the jr and sr high school levels. Upon retirement, she became an active member of the JOCO Master Gardeners. She continued her passion for teaching by establishing a program at the elementary school level for Jr Master Gardeners. At the time of her death, she was actively pursuing solutions for homeless people in the south JOCO area. Her desire to serve stayed with her through the whole of her life. In addition, she loved her family time, travel, exercise and all things associated with nature.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edna and Roy David and brothers, Walter and Glen. She is survived by her husband, Hardy, 2 sisters, Joan and Elizabeth, 2 daughters, Julie and Amy, 4 grandchildren, Blair, Harrison, Bennett and Will and 2 stepchildren, Jill and Troy. She will always be remembered for her deep love for her family, friends and service.
The family extends a special thanks to the care providers at KU Med Center, Tall Grass Creek skilled nursing facility and KC Hospice House for taking loving care of Barbara.
