I had the good fortune to meet and become close friends with Barb through our fitness classes.  There are not enough positive adjectives to describe her.  Even more inspiring than her life-long love of teaching was her passion for learning, always striving to be a better person.  We will never ever forget her. After the tears have dried and the goodbyes have been said, all we have to hold onto are the happy memories that we've shared with our loved ones who have passed. This is what keeps them alive in our hearts and in our minds and they will continue to live on, through us. Barb was a dear sole who will be missed in our neighborhood.  Her cheerful smile and quick step as she walked will be missed.  My prayers are with the family during these next few months.

Barbara and I have been friends since junior high school in Winfield, KS.  We had the same group of friends throughout high school and beyond.  We took piano lessons from the same teacher, and I also sang and Barbara played the violin.  We accompanied each other and even had a joint recital.  She and I shared the same birthday and year of birth as well as sisters named, Joan.  We even had the same middle name.  I heard from her on our birthday in February, but I did not realize she was ill.  She will be greatly missed by all.  Marcia Brantley, Larned, KS.

I only knew her as Mrs. Benson, my first clothing teacher at Indian Hills Jr. High, she was the nicest person and always willing to help you with whatever problem that you had . She always made you feel like you could sew anything you put your mind to. I remember her talking about her family and made you feel so comfortable. I still sew and I think of those days where it all began, my mom was the one who wanted me to learn to sew, now I'm in the sewing group at my church.  Barbara was a special lady, gracious, talented and caring.  Quick to smile, willing to serve, she made her mark on the world and will be greatly missed by so many.

I worked with Barbara at the Shawnee Indian Mission Master Gardener project. She inspired all she came in contact with through her enthusiasm and dedication, warm smile and cheerful manner. She talked of her family and trips to Canada. It was always fun to have her working alongside you.  She will be missed and remembered.

Barbara taught at Shawnee Mission South when I was there.  She was always friendly, helpful,shared her homemaking talent, and had great style! Hardy and Barbara. were a very devoted couple.

I worked with Barbara through the Master Gardener program. She was an inspiration to all with her passion for education. She truly touched so many lives in a positive and caring way, and left the Earth a better place.

Barbara always greeted everyone with a warm smile.  I met her through the Master Gardener program and she always made everyone feel important.  Her love of gardening and nature as well as her passion for sharing her expertise were a true gift.  We have lost much.

Barbara was a fantastic Lady, Educator, Gardener, and good friend.  She had a quiet yet forceful personality which got things done for the benefit of all.  Such a joy and she will be missed.

Prairie School will miss Barbara. She was there every month along with the Master Gardeners to work with our Jr. Master Gardeners.  Always so cheerful, kind and pleasant. Thoughts & prayers for her family.

Barb made me a better perosn.  Her love, candor and passion was contagious.  I loved my sacred time with her and will always cherish it.  She is walking the trails of heaven......

Dear Hardy, I am so sorry to hear about the death of Ellen.  She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother.  She devoted much of her life in her pursuit of educating and serving others. I will miss Barbara in our neighborhood! She was always so kind to both me and my daughter during our 12 1/2 years in the ICPE community. I enjoyed our quick conversations as she was out on her daily walks and appreciated her sincere kindness when we were in a time of need. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family in this difficult time of transition.

I feel so fortunate to have met Barb and gotten to know her through our Zumba class and learn what a wonderful friend and human being she was.  She will be greatly missed.
