She graduated in 1958 from Warsaw High School. After graduation, she was united in marriage to Richard Alvis on May 25, 1958, at the age of 17. To this union, two children were born, Betty and Lawrence.
In 1967, Barbara and her family moved to Raytown, MO. After both children were in school, she began her career at the Raytown C-2 School District. She started as a part-time worker in the cafeteria and worked her way up to kitchen manager. Her welcoming smile and the ornery gleam in her eyes helped to make her a positive role model for the students, to the point that several of them called her “mom”.
After the death of Richard, she met and married James Sisco in 1993. Her family went from two children to five children. They continued to live in Raytown, and then eventually moved to Kansas City, MO. She retired in 1997 to spend time traveling and gambling with her second husband.
Barbara was active in Scouting USA for 20+ years and in the Order of the Eastern Star for 50+ years. Her highest office was Worthy Matron. She also enjoyed sewing, needlepoint, painting, and baking. She especially liked making sweets and desserts. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her children Betty Alvis of Butler, MO; Lawrence (Deb) Alvis of Independence, MO; Dennis (Paula) Sisco of St. Joseph, MO; Rob (Vicki) Sisco of Prairie Village, KS; and Dan Sisco of Raytown, MO. Barbara is also survived by her brothers James Foster of Sedalia, MO; John Foster of Columbia, MO; Melvin Foster of Denver, CO; David (Susan) Foster of Texarcana, AR; and her 6 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and numerous nephews, nieces, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Richard Alvis (married 1958-1987); her second husband, James Sisco (married 1993-2006); her parents, John and Muriel Foster; her sister, Edith Gann; and a grandchild, Joel Alvis.
