

She was born on March 10, 1946 in Cabool, Missouri as the daughter of Alfred and Dorothy (Montgomery) Massey. Barbara grew up in Bolivar, Missouri where her parents raised her and her brother, James Massey. She graduated from Bolivar High School, and continued her education to graduate from college with a degree in Education and eventually achieved a master's degree in special education from Central Missouri State University. She taught special education in the Lee's Summit R7 School district for several decades and took great pleasure in helping special needs students grow to overcome their challenges and achieve success in life.
Barbara was supported and strengthened by her husband Monte Stewart in their 42 years of marriage until Monte passed in 2015.
An extremely creative soul with a passion for painting, she thrived on helping others on their journey in life. She loved animals and honed her painting skills painting pet portraits and really anything that peaked her interest. She had a gift and passion for the arts. As an animal lover, she had many dogs throughout the years including Skampy, JoJo, King, Casey, and Cody. She could talk to you about any of them for hours on end with a never-ending sparkle in her eyes.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Monte and her brother James A. Massey. Barbara is survived by her only child, Brandon L. Stewart, grandchildren, Maddox P. and Gunnar G. Stewart and the support of her dear friend, Kathy Bryan.
A Visitation for Barbara will be held from 1:00pm to 2:00pm on Wednesday, September 25th followed by a 2:00pm Funeral Service. Burial will following in Mount Moriah Cemetery South.
