Elouise Mildred Mayer, age 95, of Olathe, Kansas, passed away on March 2, 2026. She was a beloved and thoughtful woman whose life was devoted to her family and the care she gave so generously to others.
Beezie was born on November 3, 1930, in Viborg, South Dakota. She was the daughter of Everett W. and Lois M. (Peters) Nelson. She was affectionately called Beezie by her older sister, a nickname that quickly caught on with the rest of the family. She played the Baritone Horn in the Viborg High School Marching Band and graduated in 1948.
Beezie’s life’s occupation was her family, where she served faithfully as a homemaker. She married Gaylord F. Mayer in 1950.
Beezie was preceded in death by her husband, Gaylord, on January 30, 2023, two sisters, and a grandson. She is survived by her children, Barry Mayer and wife, Marilyn, Melanie Thompson and husband, Marshall, four grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
A talented seamstress, Beezie made her own clothes and lovingly created bridesmaids’ dresses and clothing for family members. Thoughtful and organized, she was often the one in charge of holiday gatherings and special family times, bringing order, warmth, and care to the moments that mattered most.
Beezie was also known for surviving the Ruskin Heights tornado in 1957. She would share her scrapbook with family and friends, documenting the total destruction of their home—a powerful reminder of both what was lost and the strength with which she carried on.
