Bernard “Barney” Lee Jones, born 1924, passed away October 3, 2010, was a World War II veteran. When he was in the Army he attended Carnegie Tech where he decided to be an electrical engineer instead of a concert pianist. After graduating from Kansas University, he married Maxine Grable and they made their first home in Massena, New York where he worked for Alcoa. His two children, Debra Lark and Gary Allen, were born in New York before the family moved to Kansas City where he took a job with Midwest Research Institute. Before retiring to take care of his ailing wife, he also worked for Boeing in Seattle, Bell Aerosystems in Tucson and Black and Veatch in Kansas City. After Maxine’s death he enjoyed the company of his eighteen year companion, Marguerite Carpenter, who had been a longtime friend of his brother and sister-in-law. The blending of the Jones and Carpenter families gave him much pleasure. He is survived by his two children, a niece and nephew, and all the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of the blended families. Graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 6, at Mt. Moriah Cemetery South, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Kansas City Hospice House, 12000 Wornall Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64145. Condolences may be made at www.mtmoriah-freeman.com. Arrangements under the direction of Mount Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home, Kansas City, MO.
