She was born to Allene (Thomas) and William M. Scantlin in Kansas City, MO on March 24, 1931.
Her middle name was after her father’s sister, Ruth Scantlin Roach, who was a Cowgirl Rodeo Entertainer with the 101 Ranch Rodeo Show.
Betty had 5 older brothers and 1 younger sister.
She attended Manuel High School. In 1951, she married John Horace Hoagland. She was a great homemaker, staying home with 4 children while her husband worked 2 jobs.
After her youngest child started school, she began working outside the home, retiring from Bayer Corporation.
Betty was a wonderful seamstress and she loved making hand-sewn quilts and attending craft shows.
She and John loved to travel – by plane and many times on group bus trips.
Betty enjoyed life and always had a smile on her face – her grandchildren and great grandchildren were her pride and joy.
After John died, everyone said that Betty’s health declined because she had a broken heart. Isn’t it fitting that she was reunited with her sweetheart on Valentine’s Day.
