Her mother was Lena Lee Kamberg (Selders) and her father was Willard C. Kamberg. Her brothers are Bill Kamberg who preceded her in death, and Larry Kamberg who lives in the St. Louis area. She attended Hale Cook Elementary School, Southwest High School and Junior College. She remained close to many of her high school friends throughout her life.
She married John B. Perkins and soon after had a son, John M. Perkins, a second son, A. Jeffrey Perkins, and a daughter, Janet L. Perkins. She raised them in the same house on Jarboe where she grew up. She is fortunate to have 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
During the years that her children were young, she worked at an elementary school so that she could have holidays and summers off to be with her children. As they grew up, she was active in Brownie Scouts with Janet, and Boy Scouts with her two sons. The Boy Scout Troop had a mother’s organization called the “Bulldog Biddies” and she remained close with many of them for years after the boys left Scouts.
When she and John moved to Lee's Summit, she enjoyed having family over to enjoy the pool in the backyard, play outdoor games and cook out.
Summers were often spent in Southern Missouri camping as a family, canoeing, cooking outdoors, fishing and just being together as a family. She also loved walking the beach in Florida when on vacation there, and had shells at home to remind her of those trips.
When the children got older, she worked as a law clerk for a couple of different judges for the rest of her professional life.
She was always active in the church. Her years in Lee's Summit and Independence brought her to Woods Chapel Methodist Church. She spent many wonderful years singing in the choir and volunteering for garden projects around the church yard, serving on the funeral food committee, and going on mission trips to places like the hurricane ravaged New Orleans to help them rebuild. She was a part of a prayer group that met on Thursdays right up to the end.
She loved being at her home in Independence where she took care to put out seed for the birds that she loved to watch, yelling at the squirrels for eating the bird food, and seeing the occasional deer.
She had wonderful friends who found ways to help her as she got older, visiting her when they could and assisting with various needs as they arose. We are grateful for all of their support.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Woods Chapel Methodist Church, 4725 NE Lakewood Way, Lee's Summit MO, 64064. The service will begin at 10:30 with a remembrance of Betty and prayers from the pastor. Following that will be a few brief words from family members and fellowship with one another.
