Betty Jean Ruf

Born in Oklahoma City, OK on July 26, 1928 to Clark and Effie Golding, Betty moved to Kansas City, MO at age three to be raised by George and Emma McGinnis.

She graduated from Westport High School in 1945 and worked for BMA Insurance Co. before marrying Thomas Ruf Jr. in June of 1946. Betty lived in Westport for 39 years before moving to LaCygne, KS in 1985.

Betty is preceded in death by her husband Thomas Ruf Jr.; sisters Barbara and Martha; brothers Robert, Richard, and Bill; adoptive parents Emma & George McGinnis; son Donald T. Ruf, and daughter Kathleen A. (Ruf) Cummickel.

Betty is survived by son in law Rodney Cummickel; two grandchildren Jennifer (Cummickel) Robertson with husband David, and John Cummickel; and two great grandchildren Jacob and Matthew Robertson.

Pallbearers are to be Rodney Cummickel, John Cummickel, David Robertson, Jay Ruf, Brian Ruf, Tracy Clark, and Preston Moore.

Honorary pallbearers are Wayne Woodson, Ace Justice, and Donald Ruf (deceased).

A visitation will be held Saturday, January 31, 2026 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Floral Hills Funeral Home (7000 Blue Ridge blvd., Kansas City, MO 64133).

A funeral will follow at 2:00 PM at Floral Hills Funeral Home (7000 Blue Ridge Blvd., Kansas City, MO 64133).

We will conclude with a graveside service on Saturday, January 31, 2026 at 3:00 PM at Floral Hills Cemetery (7000 Blue Ridge Blvd., Kansas City, MO 64133).

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to the American Heart Association.
