Bill C. Broughton

Bill Broughton, 85, Kansas City, passed away Nov. 17, 2016. Funeral will be Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2016 at 2:00 at McGilley Antioch Chapel, 3325 NE Vivion Road, Kansas City. Visitation will precede the service from 1:00-2:00. Burial to follow, with honors, at White Chapel Memorial Cemetery

Bill was born Sept. 20, 1931 to John and Lillie May Broughton in Pittsburg, KY. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict from 1951 to 1953. He married Mary Ruth Carter in 1957 in Washington, DC.

The couple moved to the Kansas City area in 1963. Bill worked in multiple government jobs, including at Fort Leavenworth/Leavenworth National Cemetery. He was an avid Kentucky Wildcat fan.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, a sister and a nephew. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Mary Ruth; daughter Stephanie Bates; grandson Harley Bates; nieces Carol Hamburg, Kathy Merritt, Karen Sue Davis, Jane Broughton and Dava Ihrke; and numerous grandnieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Wounded Warrior Project. Arrangements under the direction of McGilley Antioch Chapel, Kansas City, 816-453-7700.
