

Cathryn Erffmeyer Schmidt died on March 24, 2015 at the age of 94 at Lakeview. She was born October 4, 1920 in Hiawatha, Kansas, the daughter of Rev. Erwin E. and Mame Schumacher Erffmeyer. Funeral services will be at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, March 28, 2015 with visitation from 2:00-3:00 p.m. prior to services. Burial in Mt. Moriah Cemetery South.
Cathryn’s early years were spent in the church parsonages in Hiawatha & Newton, Kansas and Falls City, Nebraska. She graduated from Falls City High School but attended Newton High School two of those years. She graduated from North Central College, Naperville, Illinois in 1942 after attending Peru State Teachers College in Nebraska for two years. Cathryn taught Home Economics in the Muskegon Heights, Michigan High School for a number of years.
Cathryn was married to Paul Schmidt in July 1945. She and Paul lived in the Kansas City area since 1948. She lost her eyesight beginning in 2004. Cathryn was a member of the Lenexa United Methodist Church and was active in the United Methodist Women a number of years. Professional and other societies included the Home Economics organizations, PEO Sisterhood, Church Women United, etc.
Cathryn was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Paul and an older sister, Lucille Schroeder. She is survived by her three sons and their families: Grant and Denise of London, Ohio, Byron of Columbus, Ohio, and Allan and Anne of Overland Park, Kansas; three grandchildren: Josh and Ashley of Columbus, Ohio and Lea of Portland, Oregon; two nieces, Karla Voth and Sharon Schroeder Glass and a nephew, Scott Voth. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lakeview Village Foundation.
