

Cecilia Madrid Lopez, 90, of Independence, MO passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, January 3, 2015 while surrounded by her loved ones. Visitation will be Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2015 from 9–10am with Rosary recitation starting at 9:45am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 600 N. Liberty St., Indep., MO. Mass of Christian Burial is at 10am at the church. Burial at Calvary Cemetery.
Cecelia was born on June 12, 1924 in LaJunta, Colorado. She was the third of six children of parents Andrew & Antonia Madrid. She married Cecilio Jacinto Lopez on March 9, 1942 & they celebrated 47 years of marriage. She retired from Sunshine Biscuit Co. after 34 years. She served as the Recording Secretary for the Bakery & Confectionary Union & was a trailblazer for women working in a male dominated industry. Upon retirement she enjoyed ballroom dancing as well as traveling with her family. She was a member of the St. Mary’s Altar & Rosary Society. She lived her faith which was one of the greatest gifts she passed on to her children.
Cecilia was preceded in death by her husband; parents; siblings, Dewey Madrid, Andrew Madrid & Dora Salazar; grandsons, Angelo Pepper & Michael Lopez & great-grandson, Jake Robel. She is survived by her children, Vincent (Kay), Joseph (Phyllis), Raymond (Mary), Antonia Salanky (John), Cecilia Johnson, Avelina Crank, Dora Sinclair & fifth daughter, Janie Lewis. She leaves behind 17 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren & 4 great-great grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
