Charles Anthony Bellman was born on June 28, 1938, in Kansas City to Otto and Naomi (Wright) Bellman. Charlie was a graduate of Lillis High School class of 1955 and served in the US Army until 1958. He began work with Southwestern Bell in 1958 where he had a successful 40-year career before his retirement.
Charlie married the girl next door and love of his life, Maria (Esparza) in 1961 and loved her for nearly 62 years to the end of his days.
Charlie was a lifelong devout Catholic and belonged to Nativity of Mary parish in Independence, MO since 1970. He was actively involved in the parish and supported numerous organizations and events over the years.
An avid athlete who loved to compete, he played baseball through his 40s and golfed into his retirement. He had a sense of adventure and loved to travel. Charlie routinely visited Mexico to spend time with his extended family and took pride in visiting each of the states save for Alaska.
Charlie is survived by his wife Maria, sons Paul, Tom, Joe (Chris), and David, and grandchildren Jack, Tim, Thomas, and Kerri (Zach). He is also survived by his brother Tom (Patsy), in-laws, and many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Patricia and Barbara, and brother Richard.
After surviving cancer and heroically enduring many years of dialysis, Charlie died peacefully with his wife and sons by his side. Services will be held on Saturday, September 10th at Nativity of Mary Catholic Church. Visitation will begin at 10:00am followed by Mass at 11:30am.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Boy Scouts of America or Nativity of Mary Catholic Church in Independence, MO.
