

Clarence Alexander Thompson, Jr. was born in Springfield, Missouri on December 28, 1919 to Elsie Marie (Dittmer) Thompson and Clarence A. Thompson, Sr. He was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps 1937- 1938 and worked on various public works projects in Iowa. He became a welder in 1940. He was married on February 20, 1943 to Rev. Margaret M. Sherman, of Kansas City, Missouri, in a double wedding which also married her sister Marion E. Sherman and Amos Aaron Landes.
He played baseball for three years in the Industrial Baseball League as a pitcher prior to his military service. He entered the United States Navy in April, 1944. He served aboard the U.S.S. Vulcan as a Petty Officer 1st Class, and visited Oran, N Africa, Australia, Hawaii, and many Pacific islands including Occupied Japan. He received an honorable discharge from the Navy in January, 1946.
He was a member of the Messiah Church of the Brethren. He was installed as a lifetime deacon in 1956 and was a faithful servant of God. He worked as a metal designer, fabricator, welder, and sculptor. He retired from General Motors in 1988. After retirement, he continued to work for Stenner Brothers Machine Products. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and working in his garden. He was an avid reader and loved watching western movies.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; his mother and father; brother, Richard Alvin Thompson and sisters, Pauline Cann, Edith Demort, and Mildred Wimmer. He is survived by his wife, Margaret; son, Clark A. Thompson and wife Linda Thompson of Grandview, Missouri; grandson, Bryan A. Thompson of Rolla, Missouri; granddaughter, Tamara J. Carrell and husband Joshua Carrell, of Shawnee, Kansas; his sister, Betty Young of Meltone, California; great grandchildren, Haley, Tristan, and Finnegan, of Shawnee, Kansas and many loving nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.
Services will be held at McGilley and Sheil Funeral Home, 11924 E. 47th St., Kansas City, MO 64133 on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. and visitation will be held one hour prior. Burial will be at the Blue Springs Cemetery.
