

“Connie” Hymer passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on Friday, July 11th. Connie was born December 31, 1927, to Virginia (Nash) Hymer and adopted by Alvin Hymer. When he was 16, he persuaded his mother to sign for him to join the Merchant Marines, where he served for one year. He then entered the Army, and served for three years. Upon his return, he joined the Kansas City Missouri Police Department, rising to the rank of detective. After his retirement from the Police Force, he started and ran several successful businesses, including Liberty Bonding. He loved to travel and being at his vacation home at the Lake of the Ozarks.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Virginia (Nash) Hymer and Alvin Hymer, his brothers and sister-in-law, Tony Hymer, Marion Hymer and Sandy Hymer, and his great-grandson Stephen Buehler. He leaves behind the love of his life and wife of sixty years, Dorothy (Junker) Hymer; children Toni Sheffer (Vince), Carla Gredell (Tom), Marcia Paynter (Tom), Skip Hymer (Erin), and Scott Hymer (Sherry.) He also leaves his grandchildren Deidre Sheffer (Jeremy), Devra Tan (Chris), Nick Gredell (Liz), Matt Gredell (Aubree), Katie Buehler (Brett), Devin Gredell, Sara Paynter, Brian Paynter, Jacob Paynter, Amy Hymer, Stacy Hymer, Michael Hymer, Nate Hymer, and Sophia Smith; great-grandchildren Raigan, David, and Brandon Keltner; Max, Ellie, and Lucie Gredell; and Dominic Tan. He also leaves nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and his step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all who called him “Grandpa Connie.”
Rosary will be said Wednesday, July 16th, at 6:00pm, with visitation to follow until 8:00, at St. Elizabeth Church, 75th and Main. Mass of Christian Burial be Thursday, July 17th, 10am, at the church. Burial at Mount Olivet. Donations in Connie’s name may be made to St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Children’s Mercy Hospital, or Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care
