He is survived by his wife, Lorry, children Lauren and Eric, step-children Mike (Jessica), Jessica (Jon), Matt, Katie and grand & great-grandchildren.
Curt retired from General Motors in 2016. If you knew Curt, you knew he loved his country and was proud of his service in the Marine Corps. He enjoyed all military books and movies but especially the Vietnam era. He loved music, singing and dancing. Curt spent time teaching himself to play the guitar and banjo. He was a great cook and had plans to experiment with making hot sauce this summer. Curt traveled many places in his life and was always ready to plan another trip. He was hard-headed, opinionated and enjoyed discussing current events or politics with just about everyone.
Curt was outgoing, making friends and lasting impressions on everyone he met. He was always happy to get together for an afternoon of playing pool and catching up with friends. Curt loved family dinners and spending time with his youngest granddaughters, who knew him as GD, for granddad. GD was always in for a game or 2 of hide and seek.
Curt was preceded in death by his parents, Milt and Eunice Shope and 3 brothers, Eric, Mark and Lance. Some of his favorite memories were from family reunions with the laughter, music and cards. So here’s hoping old Shope is reunited with his family, telling his stories, waving his arms around, cooking something great on the smoker, playing a little pitch….and of course drinking a beer.
We miss you Curt.
