Derek Wiley Smith

We lost Derek much too soon. He was one of the most caring and compassionate people anyone could ever meet. He also had an outgoing personality, a great sense of humor, and an infectious laugh that could light up a room. His lighthearted and accepting nature was a breath of fresh air, and he will be greatly missed.

Derek was born on December 12, 1990 in Phoenix, Arizona. He had a happy childhood growing up in Phoenix and Overland Park filled with countless days at the pool, bike rides with his brothers and friends, and family trips to the lake and beach. Derek attended Blue Valley North High School in Overland Park, where he met some of his best friends who were with him for the rest of his life.

As an adult, Derek obtained numerous insurance certifications and maintained a successful career in the insurance industry which included roles as a producer, claims specialist, and agency owner. His various jobs and adventures in adulthood, along with his approachable personality, allowed him to make more lasting friendships during these years. With all of his successes as an adult, he was the most proud of his two beautiful boys Jacob and Myles who were born in 2017 and 2018. Derek was a loving father who cared very deeply for his kids and cherished the time he got to spend with them.

Derek is survived by his sons Jacob and Myles, his parents David and Audrey, his brothers Drew and Grant, his sister-in-law Ali, and many friends, family, and loved ones.

His parents and brothers would like to extend their thanks to his friends and the rest of the family for their love and friendship throughout the years.
