Born in Wea, Kansas in 1930 to Herman and Anna Rosner, Dolores was a lifelong Catholic and one of eight Rosner children. Dolores was blessed with striking beauty and charm, and she made her way from the farm to TWA, and the runway just before she married the strapping R. Steve Holland in 1951, at Queen of the Holy Rosary of Wea Church.
Dolores was the proud mother of eight children, who produced 23 grandchildren, who have made 12 great-grandchildren and counting. Dolores and her sister Mary married Holland brothers, and they raised their families next door to each other, creating an unusual group of 14 double first cousin neighbors, which created a family dynamic confusing to in-laws ever since. With family at the center of all aspects of life, Dolores’ home was one of the hubs of the vibrant Holland social scene, especially during the holidays, when the house on Robinhood Lane would fill with family and friends who would roast next to R. Steve’s roaring fire.
Dolores kept her swimsuit figure her whole life, but she never shied away from fried chicken and mashed potatoes, not a strategy that works for most ladies. She was an accomplished “family-style” pianist and could beat just about all of the Rosner men on the golf course; most Holland men didn’t even try to compete. Dolores was an active participant in Parish life (Wea, Queen of the Holy Rosary and ultimately St. Joseph Catholic Church Shawnee) and the Rockhurst High School community. She made a number of pilgrimages, including, but not limited to, the Holy Land, Rome, and Fatima and traveled extensively throughout North America, Europe, Africa and Asia.
She will be remembered by her large surviving family as the matriarch of a large clan, a loving mother, grandmother and wife, a good-looking, good-cooking golfer and a faithful believer in Jesus Christ. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Catholic Charities and The Christian Foundation.
She was preceded in death by R. Steve Holland, and survived by sons Rick, Ed, John, Steve, and daughters Karen Winchester, Francie Baska, Kathleen Kennedy, and Sondra Holland Loyd.
Visitation will be 9:00 - 10:30am Thursday Jan 5th, followed by Mass of Christian burial at 10:30am at St Joseph Catholic Church, 11311 Johnson Dr., Shawnee, Kansas.
