

Donald Spencer Cornelius, 75, of Independence, Missouri, passed away March 15, 2011 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan, Kansas. Visitation will be held from 12:00-1:00 p.m. followed by memorial service at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 19, at Mt. Moriah and Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road. Private inurnment in Mt. Moriah Cemetery South. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Vincentian Parish Mission Center, 2100 N. Noland Road, Independence, Missouri 64050 and/or Good Shepherd Hospice House, 3801 Vanesta Drive, Manhattan, Kansas 66503. Don was born November 15, 1935 in Kansas City, Missouri, son of Clinton and Mary Virginia (Iden) Cornelius. He attended MU, where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity. He was a United States Air Force veteran. He worked for J.R. Stewart Construction for 25 years. Don was owner of Creative Homes. He also worked in Security at Harrah's and Ameristar. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Mary Nederman and stepson Vince Brocato. He is survived by his wife of 31 years Margie "MJ" (Dalton) Cornelius; daughters Stacey Larkin and husband Mike of Manhattan, Kansas, Debra Poirier and Cathie Ross of Oregon City, Oregon; stepdaughter Teresa Patterson and husband Dennis of Blue Springs, Missouri; stepson Steve Brocato of Blue Springs, Missouri; brother Clint and wife Gayle Cornelius and wife Gayle of Chandler, Arizona; and twin sister Dianne Generaux of Aliso Viejo, California. He is also survived by his grandchildren Mikayla Larkin, Sierra Larkin, Kelly Bowman, Ryan Patterson, Ethan Brocato, Jason Poirier, Sarah Ross, Samantha Ross, Savanah Ross; great-grandchildren Alexandra Bowman, Zoey Bowman, Alayna Patterson; and his beloved cat Moepaw.
