Don was born in Kansas City, Missouri, to Clyde and Lurah Dixon (Williams) on January 17, 1935. He attended Northeast High School and graduated in May of 1953. In January 1952, while still in high school, he joined the Missouri National Guard. Following high school, he attended MCC Community College and began his training with the National Guard.
After returning home from training, Don married his wife of 68.5 years, B. Carleen Dixon, on October 26, 1956, in a small ceremony at Bethany Baptist Church of Kansas City.
Don and Carleen had an intense and prayerful desire to become parents. The Lord answered Don and Carleen’s prayers as they became parents to Andrew Lee in 1966 and Margaret Joanne 18 months later.
Don took a job at Westinghouse that lasted only six months. Then, with a desire to become a draftsman, applied to The Defense Mapping Agency Aerospace Center of the U.S. Air Force as a cartographer, specializing in creating aeronautical charts, digital data, and space mission mapping for the DoD. He worked there for 35 years before retirement. He then worked for Logicon for 10 years, serving as a war strategist and fighting computerized “war games” with all branches of the military. Don worked extra hours throughout his life in order to further his education and obtained many advanced degrees and specialties.
Don and Carleen were avid travelers who enjoyed seeing the country. From Yellowstone to California, South Carolina to South Dakota and Minnesota, they traveled often with both family and friends, but always with each other, enjoying the company the Lord blessed them with.
He was the rock of our family, our anchor, our source of strength, stability, and safety. He was always the calm during our life’s storms; the guiding light, providing wisdom and direction when things seemed out of control. He worked tirelessly to provide the best life for his family and always put everyone’s needs before his own. His steadfast dedication, quiet integrity, and unconditional love serve as a lasting foundation on which we built our lives.
Don is survived by his children, Andrew Dixon (59) of Grandview, MO, Margaret Dixon (58) of Blue Springs, MO; five grandchildren: Samantha Marlow (30) of Parkville, MO, Sarah Marlow (28) of Blue Springs, MO, Benjamin Dixon (24) of Winter Park, FL, Braden Dixon (20) of Raymore, MO, Jacob Stanecki (16) of Blue Springs, MO; and one great grandchild, Ezekiel Marlow (5) of Blue Springs, MO.
Philippians 2:3 “Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regarding one another as more important than yourselves.”
