

Dorothy Mae Curl passed away on February 2, 2026, at the age of 101. Born on January 6, 1925, in Tullahassee Mission, Oklahoma, Dorothy was the daughter of Peter and Blanche (Guinn) Grayson. She lived a long, fulfilling life in the Kansas City Metropolitan Area.
Dorothy was known for being humorous, resilient, thoughtful and a free spirit. She graduated from the Tullahassee Mission School as Salutatorian of her class and later attended Langston University in Langston, Oklahoma, where she met her future husband, Milas C. Curl. When WW ll ended, Dorothy and Milas married and moved to Kansas City.
Dorothy was the partner and co-owner of Curl Building Maintenance, Inc., working side by side with Milas. Together they built a hugely successful business. Her most important job, however, was being a homemaker for the family.
She was an avid fan of the Kansas City Chiefs for over 50 years, proudly wearing her team colors daily. In her younger years, she enjoyed bowling and loved doing word puzzles.
Dorothy was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of St. Peter Claver and was active in the St. Louis Catholic Church in Kansas City, Missouri, until it closed. She then transferred her membership to St. Thomas More Parish.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Milas Curl, Sr., her son, Eric Curl, her granddaughter, Ashley Re', Curl, her brothers, Peter Grayson, Jr. and wife, Martha and Garland Grayson, and her sisters, Nettie Thompson and Tillie Grayson.
She is survived by her children, Rick Curl and wife Ann, Bruce Curl, and Jacquelyn Curl Rector; her grandchildren, Chris Rector and his wife Ashlyn, Elliott Curl, Jeffrey Rector, Eric M. Curl and Jessica Curl; four great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family.
Visitation will be held at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, located at 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO, on February 7, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm. A Vigil with Rosary will follow from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm. The Committal Service will take place at Mount Moriah Cemetery at 1:00 pm.
Dorothy Mae Curl will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
