Dorothy was a lifelong Kansas City area resident. She was born into a large family and grew up on a small farm in south Kansas City. She graduated from Cardinal Glennon High School in 1949 and went on to work several jobs before and after marrying the love of her life, Dr. G.W. Kelling. She spent over 36 years as the front desk/office manager for Kelling Chiropractic Center. Her smiling face and strong opinions left lasting impressions on their thousands of patients.
The home life was even more memorable, if not legendary, and anyone who had the pleasure of attending a Kelling holiday gathering can attest to this. The hospitality was gracious and endless. She was an extraordinary host to any and all. Her many hobbies included cooking, duplicate bridge and gardening. Dorothy loved to travel with family and friends whenever she could. She was an avid reader who loved to exchange letters, keep in touch with family and friends throughout the world and reminisce.
She will be fondly remembered especially by her many grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, G.W. Kelling; son, Greg; her brothers, John, Charles, and Tom Ross and sister, Mary Greeley. Survivors include her children, Dr. Doug Kelling (Sherry), Cheryl Nowlin (Danny), Dr. Brian Kelling, Eric Kelling (Diane Quinones); daughter-in-law, Kathy Orel; her brothers, Bernard and Fred Ross and her sister, Sister Mary Charlene.
A special thanks to the Shangri-La Rehab & Living Center and all its staff for the close and patient attention throughout her last years. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Wayside-Waifs or the animal shelter of your choice.
