Dorothy B. McLaren, 87, Shawnee, Kansas, passed away October 5, 2012 at KU Medical Center. Visitation will be held from 2:00 - 3:00 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 30 at Mt. Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri. Inurnment in Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Mrs. McLaren was born October 30, 1924 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, daughter of Carroll M. and Myrtle M.V. (Olson) Baklund. She was the first female in the State of Kansas to become a Certified Dental Technician. She was co-owner of Murphey Dental Studio in Hutchinson, Kansas and then Mission, Kansas. Later in life she worked for Steve Hansen’s Dental Lab. She was a talented seamstress, designer and needle-craftsman. She was preceded in death by her later husbands Joseph P. McLaren and Darrell E. Murphey. Mrs. McLaren is survived by three daughters Susan Brooks-Hart, Christine Ward and Peggy Murphey-Brooks; two granddaughters Jennifer and Kelly; four great-granddaughters Haley, Kiersten, Aleesia and Lorelai; extended family and friends.
