Dorothy L. Fern Sanders

Dorothy was born July 31, 1917 in Oskaloosa, Missouri to Delbert and Mary Rose (Rogers) Fern. She graduated from Arcadia, Kansas High School in 1933. She married Melvin on November 9, 1941 in Detroit, Michigan. She passed away on August 14, 2010. Visitation will be from 12:00-1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at Mount Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri. Funeral services to follow at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel. Burial in Mount Moriah Cemetery. She was preceded in death by her parents Delbert and Rose Fern, sister Viola Winningham, sister Louise Herrell, brother Delbert Fern Jr. and daughter Sandra Sue Sheets. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Melvin J. Sanders, daughter Shirley Ann Parks and husband Michael Parks, son-in-law Gary Sheets, grandchildren Kevin Sheets and wife Terri, Lisa Duncan and husband James, Matthew Sheets and wife Michele, great grandchildren Jessica Sheets, Gregory Sheets, Payton Sheets, Mason Sheets and Trenton Sheets as well as several nieces and nephews. She was a member of Southwood United Church of Christ- Raytown, Missouri as well as the Ararat Shrine Ladies Sewing Guild, Past President of Scottish Rite Ladies Sewing Guild, Summit Chapter Order of Eastern Star 101, Ararat Ladies Amateur Radio Club, Ladies VIP’s Club, Ararat Ladies Honor Legion of Honor, Ararat Ladies Grandview Shrine Club, Independence Beauceant #150, Ararat Ladies Lotawanna Shrine Club and the American Legion Auxiliary #0021.
