

Dr. Sukh Bassi was born February 11th, 1941 in Kericho, Kenya to father Telu Ram Bassi and mother Vidya Wanti Bassi. He came to the United States in 1963 with a scholarship and received his B.S. from Knox College, he then graduated with his M.S. and PhD from Saint Louis University. Dr. Bassi began working as a professor in 1971 at Benedictine College, he then went to work at MGP Ingredients in Atchison, Kansas in 1981. Dr. Bassi proceeded to head Scientific Affairs at Manildra Group USA, in 2014.
On August 21st 1971, he married his sweetheart Jane Gempler. They raised three sons, Neal, Nathan, and Sean in Atchison, Kansas. Dr. Bassi was a proud outdoorsmen, he worked hard to obtain the Queen's Scout Award, the highest achievable award in Scouting, and later could often be found fishing with his three sons and grandchildren. He was extremely talented in his work, with a brilliant mind, a passion for science, a leader in his industry and a novel inventor of numerous patents. Dr. Bassi was an avid racquetball player and had a long time hobby of attempting to win the lottery. He enjoyed deeply being a grandfather, being surrounded by family and spending time near the lake. His devotion and love for his family radiated when they moved to Overland Park in 2010. He will be remembered for his ability to make everyone feel welcome and a part of the family.
He is survived by his wife Jane, son Neal and daughter in law Marni, son Nathan and daughter in law Erin, son Sean and daughter in law Morgan, his three granddaughters MaKayla, Miya, and Ava, his sister Sureeta (husband Sudhir), sister Pushplatta, sister Papla (husband Jai Gopal), sister Prem (husband Narinder), brother Keval (wife Rani), brother Baldev (wife Phulla). Dr. Bassi is preceded in death by his father Telu and mother Vidya, brother Kamal (wife Sudesh), and sister Pushpa (husband Gopal).
Family, friends and others whose lives Dr. Bassi touched are invited to McGilley State Line Chapel 12301 State Line Road, Kansas City Missouri 64145 for Rosary at 5:30 pm and visitation from 6-8 pm on Thursday January 16th, 2020 to reminisce, grieve and support one another.
A funeral service will be held on Friday January, 17th, 2020 at 10 am at Church of the Ascension 9510 West 127th Street, Overland Park, Kansas, 66213. Followed by a Mausoleum Burial at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery.
