Dear Jane, Keval, and Neal, and other family members,  I miss the  frequent telephone conversations I had with Sukh, and our occasional meetings in person.   We talked like brothers, telling stories, joking and laughing together as we recalled the past. Sukh always had more questions than I could answer.  He had a quick and penetrating mind.  I felt positive after my contacts with Sukh. 

So sad to hear Dr Bassi has passed, always full of life , always challenging us at Benedictine. We were happy to see he move forward in his career but missed him dearly at BenedictineCollege.

Dearest Jane.  I learned today that you lost your husband in January.   I am so sorry for your loss.   I think of you often and have wondered where life took you and your beautiful family.  I have so many fond memories of our times together with Carol and Ardith.   I know your husband was highly respected and well thought of  in Atchison.   I am sending you and the boys my love.  It is my prayer that God will wrap his loving arms around all of you as you grieve your loss.  Many blessings are prayed for all of you.  


Sadden to hear that Dr. Bassi who was my teacher in Kerico has saddly passed. 

I remember him fondly, he was a kind and friendly man liked by all of his students. 

My deepest condolences to his family, may he rest in peace. 

Dhansukh Dumasia

RIP Dr Basi ..distinctly remembered as a great teacher from Kericho Primary School and was a scout under him. 

Dr. Bassi is well remembered and will always be remembered as a well committed Boy Scout. When he joined the Kericho Primary School, he was the only Queen Scout teacher, he was known for his strictness, good discipline. I cannot recall the subject he was teaching but for sure I remember for his commitments of scout duties.
I can recall his dear Dad who was a very good Volleyball server.  May God cradle this Nobel soul in eternal peace.  

Dr. Bassi was a very respected, kind, loyal, and dedicated man to his wife, children, grandchildren, friends and co-workers.  He treated everyone as if he had known them for years and you were always welcome in his house and life.

Dr. Bassi was a great man to work for and very brilliant.  He was fair and a very driven man but his dear wife Jane and kids came first in his life.  He was so proud of all three of his boys and their accomplishments and I never got tired of his stories.

He will always be a wonderful memory and know he wouldn’t want you mourning a long period.  He would say “pick up the pieces and keep yourself busy.  Just don’t forget your importance in life - your mother first then yourself and your families”.

We are all there for you, love you, and my deepest sympathy to all.

As we say goodbye to our dear Sukh Mamaji, we will never forget what a wonderful example he set of how families should stay close and love each other. 

So glad Shivum had a chance to spend some time with you and learn these values and understand why we all loved and respected you so much. Your calmness in every situation was to be admired. We have fond and precious memories of your visits to London, picnics at the seaside and more recently  everyone being together in Kansas.

Most of all we will never forget the love in your eyes for everyone and your wonderful and cheerful smile that lit us all up. God bless you Mamaji.

Thoughts and prayers are with Jane and the whole Bassi family from Patti and me.  Dr. Bassi was a mentor, a friend, and a daily inspiration about how to live life.  We worked together for the growth of MGP’s Pet Division, and we traveled to Mississippi and Washington DC too to nurture the Biodegradable Products segment as well.  He was a visionary.  Many great ideas and much laughter too were shared over a love of delicious Indian food at Swagat.  Sukh’s life was a testimony to the difference that one man can make in this world.  He made a difference in our lives and he will be missed by Patti and me dearly.  Rest In Peace.

We have Camp Kanza thanks to this great man. Scouts have had great experiences do to his efforts.

I am so sorry to hear about your dad.  I always had such fond memories of him when he was at MGP.  He was always so kind to me and had the biggest smile.  I hope you find comfort over the next few days with family and friends.

Sukh you were not a brother in -law but a brother and friend. We shared countless moments together. Stayed up late chatting about life- past, present and future. We had an amazing trip to Europe many years ago but the fun we had and the memories we made will remain forever. Sukh you are a huge loss to us all. You were a wonderful person and you brought out the best in everyone. I miss you very much. God bless you.

I had the privilege of working with Dr. Sukh Bassi at MGP Ingredients, Inc. for around 26 years since graduating from Kansas State University. He was my mentor, colleague and family friend. He was a firm believer of hard work and dedication, chain of command, and accountability. We traveled together extensively and got me introduced to Indian cuisine, especially the dessert “Gulab Jamun”, with him knowing that I have a sweet tooth.  I had the pleasure to personally know very well his family here in the U.S and in the U.K. It’s difficult to count the number of times we got together for a party or gathering in his home in Atchison and Overland Park and in his lake house in Effingham. Dr. Bassi was a very generous person and had a great sense of humor. We always laughed at the same jokes even though they had been told several times before. I enjoyed his numerous stories growing up in Kenya, East Africa. He always talked fondly about his experiences with his “Blood Brothers” (Jerry Lasater, Dr. Paul Seib and Alan Armstrong, Sr. (deceased)). He spoke proudly of his three sons (Neal, Nathan and Sean) and was very fond of his grandchildren (MaKayla, Miya and Ava) and also of Anisa, Natasha, and my daughter, Barbara, when they were growing up and even up to the present time. My daughter would like to add that “Dr. Bassi was an incredibly genuine, loving friend who welcomed my parents and me into his family. I’ll never forget the warmth of his conversations - the way he remembered details of our lives though some time had passed since the last 4th of July when we last spent time at his lake house. He’s a grandfather figure and I feel so lucky to have had him in my life. He made an impact on myself and my family more than he could ever know and he will be missed immensely”. Dr. Bassi loves his family very dearly, especially his grandkids. He will be missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with Jane and the whole Bassi family. Rest in peace, Dr. Bassi.

For a period of some 25 years I had the privilege to work with Dr Suhk Bassi at the Company  now named MGP Ingredients INC in Atchison KS.  Dr Bassi was educated in science, and he was a strong proponent of research and development. He was instrumental in the development of new products that added  value to the grains processed at the Company.  Dr Bassi had the ability to zero in on key issues of a problem or proposal,  and to direct efforts towards  practical resolutions. Dr Bassi and I became friends. Together we enjoyed conversation, golf, and dining and visiting with family and friends.  My wife Pyong,  and I will miss our good friend.  

Dearest Mamaji Sukh- we cannot say goodbye to you because you will always remain in our hearts. You were a very special person in our family. Mamaji, you enabled us all to get together and connect with each other. You always made time for everyone- young or old. You gave the best advice and always listened and really understood every person you spent time with. Your smile lifted us all. Family values, love and respect for those who touch our lives are lessons you taught us.
I remember the time you and Aunty Jane spent with us and I was telling you little anecdotes about my students and it made you  all laugh so much as some of these things were so unbelievable. Talking to you on the phone was like talking to a friend because we could talk so freely. 
You will be forever in our hearts Sukh Mamaji.

No words can express the loss of my dear beloved brother Sukh. You were and always will be an amazing brother. You were the bond of family life. Sukh you have left a hole in our hearts but the values you taught us will always remain with us and will forever be passed down through the family generations.
Thank you for an amazing holiday last year. The memories of that holiday are priceless as are those we shared at weddings and family gatherings. Memories of our childhood are so precious. You were so mischievous but no one had the heart to tell you off because your smile just melted our hearts. We were truly blessed to have you as our brother, friend and father figure. I will miss making parathas for you. 
I will miss our long chats - the advice you gave and for keeping us all so grounded. You were our strength and our rock. Bless you my dear dear brother.

My heart absolutely breaks just knowing your time here on earth has come to an end. Papa, you have never failed to light up a room or make someone’s day. We have so many memories together that I will cherish forever. Some of my earliest memories include going to McDonald’s for breakfast on Sundays in Atchison, then going to Walmart where he’d buy us a new toy. We would always pick apples in the backyard so grandma could make us apple sauce. Sometimes the apples would be filled with lady bugs and in that case, he would let me keep them to bring to show and tell. Papa also taught me how to go fishing at the old lake house in Effingham. My whole life papa and I shared many secrets. One of those secrets was that he gave me a phone in the sixth grade without telling my parents. It was the little exciting things that papa lived for. Papa knew how to create and sustain lifelong friendships. He knew how to take care of others before himself. In the later years of his life, papa would go on walks to our house and bless us with his presence every day. After he got his pace maker, I would come to his house daily and give him workouts, physical therapy, and massages (his favorite). Every year papa would take us shopping for Christmas and would even deal with going to “The Pink” with us. Papa also always made sure to keep the family together on a regular basis. I always loved the huge group messages papa made to make more dinner plans. The last months of his life, I would slowly walk papa up and down the stairs. Sometimes we would purposely stay upstairs and isolate ourselves in his room to tell secrets and have heart to hearts. One of his last pieces of advice to me was this Christmas when he said “don’t get old.” During the last days of papas life, he was surrounded by constant love and encouragement. My last memory with papa was before he was admitted to the ICU when he said “best friend, best friend, I love you MaKayla.” Papa never took anyone for granted. 

Our beloved Sukh Papa was larger than life. He had the knack of winning the heart of everyone he touched and was adored by all.  Papa had very strong family values that he always placed above all other matters of life.  He helped everyone in the family and was looked up to by all.  
On a personal level, I would never forget Sukh Papa's help and guidance that led to my success in the USA.  It was always a nice feeling to get accolades from him on the smallest of my accomplishments.  Your loss is truly heart breaking; an emptiness that will remain in my heart for the rest of my life. Thank you for enrichening our lives by being there.  Your unconditional love would be greatly missed. I know that you will be watching over us and continue to bless us all. Farewell until we meet again, as it states in the Hindu scriptures…
My love and prayers for Jane and everyone in the family...may God give everyone strength to bear your loss for I know how hard it will be...

I have many fond memories of my Uncle Sukh. He was the kindest and most sincere man with a heart full of gold. He was a role model to all, a teacher, a protector. He knew anything about everything and was always curious to learn more and spread knowledge. God placed him in our family to show us what family should be. The selfless bond between a family includes sharing, caring, and being there for the good and the bad times. Without fail he used to visit me on my birthday every year and be there for the downs when I needed guidance. He left our family with lots of love and memories. It’s hard to envision the coming days without him, but he is still with us in our hearts. Praying for your soul Uncle Sukh, it’s a farewell for now, till we meet again. We will not be shedding any more tears, but celebrating your life. Love you. 

I had known Suhk for nearly 20 years.    My favorite memory of Suhk?    there were plenty of good memories.   Perhaps the best memory...having lunch with Suhk as he narrated his early days of struggling through the hard times and conditions.     I think he was actually beaming with outward pride as he spoke.     Suhk not only survived those early days but  gained world notoriety in his chosen career.     I always admired Suhk and I will continue to hold him in high esteem.     Good bye good friend.
