

Edmund Julich, 94, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2011. Ed was born in Maple River, Iowa, on September 8, 1916 the second of 13 children of Fred and Frances Julich. Following graduation from high school, Ed worked for the Union Pacific Railroad before enlisting in the United States Army in 1941. During World War II he was a meteorologist with the Army Air Corps in the Pacific Theater. After being discharged in 1945 he worked for the National Weather Service in Des Moines, Iowa and was recalled to active duty in 1951. As a meteorologist for the United States Air Force he saw service in Kansas, Indiana, Morocco, Virginia, Japan, Missouri and Maryland. He retired in 1967 attaining the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. He began a second career with the City of Kansas City, retiring as Assistant City Assessor in 1982. He was an active volunteer for 31 years in the emergency room at St. Joseph Hospital until April of this year.
Ed married Helen Tripplehorn in January, 1946 and had three children; Deborah Kelly (Robert) of Overland Park, Gordon of Lee’s Summit, and Peter (Ann) of Lee’s Summit, five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Sylvia Nagl, Frances Mary Wood, Monica Heires; and a brother, Maury Julich. He was preceded in death by his wife Helen, in 2008.
Ed was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a devout Catholic, a Knight of the Holy Sepulcher, and member of St. Thomas More Parish. He served as a role model to many, a humble man proud of his service to his country and caring of his family.
The family commends the staff of the Grand Court Retirement Center for providing a caring and wholesome environment for the past three years he was a resident. The family also recognizes the extraordinary compassion and professionalism demonstrated by the staff of the University of Kansas Medical Center.
Visitation will be held Monday, June 6th, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 11822 Holmes, Kansas City, MO 64131, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:30 p.m., with burial following in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Hospital, 1000 Carondelet Drive, Kansas City, MO 64114 or St. Thomas More Catholic Church.
