

He had been continuing treatments when he passed away in his sleep.
The family is grateful for the kind and compassionate care he received at VA medical centers in Kansas City and St. Louis.
Eddie was born in Great Bend, Kansas, to Ed and Ruth Ellen (Neumann) Owens. He was less than 2 years old when he and his four siblings went to live with relatives briefly after their mother’s death.
The children and their father were reunited in late 1959 and their father married Patricia Maureen (Feldmiller) Owens. The family lived in Kansas City and was joined by a daughter/sister, Rebecca. Eddie attended Visitation Elementary School and Rockhurst High School. He also completed vocational training in air-conditioning service and maintenance.
Eddie served in the Army in the early 1980s before returning to Kansas City, which was truly his home and where his legion of friends will remember him. Eddie was known to his many friends for his great sense of humor and generosity.
He was self-employed and worked in construction and was a painter.
Eddie is survived by Patricia Owens, his stepmother, and her husband, Dr. Eric Cassell; by his sister Peggy Owens and Al Knauber; Tere Owens and Al Krueger and Al’s son, Ben; Shirley Owens and Robert Whitall Jr.; Jim Owens and Jessie Owens and their son, Keaton; Rebecca Owens and numerous members of his extended family. The family is grateful to Lisa Nigro, Virginia Bellis, Rick Neumann, Steve Hayes, Chris Sullivan, Tom Hayes and numerous friends and family for their assistance to Eddie.
A visitation and service will be held Sunday July 10, 1-2 p.m., at McGilley Midtown Chapel, 20 W. Linwood Blvd., Kansas City, MO. The service will begin at 2 p.m.
A celebration of his life will follow the service at BB’s Lawnside BBQ, 1205 E. 85th St., from 3:30-5:30 p.m. where Eddie went to enjoy the blues.
